Day 9 Jan. 1st (Canon T3i)

Amber's photo's of Lake Nasser temples. Damon was sick this morning, so Amber had to brave the temples alone...well not quite alone...there were about 30 other people in the group. Early morning we took a motorboat to a site that had 3 temples within walking distance. First was Wadi El Seboua with the avenue of sphinxes. Second, after a long hike up hill, was the Temple of Dakka which is dedicated to the Ibis-headed god Thoth. Last was the temple of Meharakka. After sailing to Amada, Damon was feeling better and we visited the temple there which is the oldest Nubian temple. Close by was also the temple at Derr, which is cut into the rock, and the tomb of Penout, who was a Viceroy of Kush(Nubia). This tomb was the only one, out of close to 500, that was moved to be saved from flood waters. After lunch we sailed by the ancient fortress of Kasr Ibrim, and past the Tropic of Cancer. We docked at Abu Simbel where we saw a wonderful light show that doesn't quite show up in the photos.
